Frank Murdoch

Artist/Diver Frank Murdoch needed a quiet place—he was bipolar (mostly manic) and the underwater was his peaceful refuge.         Frank Murdoch in his studio, 1966, © Seattle Times

Frank Murdoch's book of Underwater Paintings of the Pacific Northwest, The Quiet Place, was the culmination of his life’s work and was meant to be the best of Murdoch. He finished the book—a real achievement for a man who started so many brilliant projects, but like shooting stars, his projects faded away when he lost interest, (and began a fabulous new projec)t—but The Quiet Place was never published.

Franks' children still have nearly all of the book paintings, and the manuscript.

Below are some of the book paintings .
